What is SE Uplift?

Southeast Uplift Neighborhood Coalition is one of seven coalitions in Portland supporting ninety-five neighborhoods, with twenty neighborhood associations and eleven business associations under our umbrella of support. We also maintain a number of strategic partnerships with other coalitions, organizations, associations and schools.

Southeast Uplift began in 1968 when a group of neighbors banded together to oppose the Mount Hood Freeway Project, challenging the project’s lack of community outreach and ultimately paving the road for the Max light rail.

Through my window I can see the sun shining on a beautiful summer day in SE Portland.  There’s a breeze tussling the street trees and all the flowers of summer in full bloom. What a marvelous place to work! I’m very pleased and grateful for the opportunity to be SE Uplift’s new Executive Director.

Over the course of this summer I will be working with you all to support and energize SE Uplift, to honor our history and the passion of our membership and to celebrate our newer neighbors and all that is vital and active in this wonderful place that it is SE Uplift’s privilege to serve.

This summer we will be working on the grounds and building – we hope to make this facility both increasingly welcoming and increasingly useful to the community. Let us know if you have skills or interest in this area, we will have plenty of volunteer opportunities as we move forward with these projects!
