Successful South Tabor Spring Clean Up . . . and it didn't rain
The parking lot was buzzing with activity before 8:00 am on Saturday, May 28th as volunteers set up tents and tables, put out signs, directed dumpster drivers, and doodled signs onto the pavement with sidewalk chalk to prepare for the South Tabor Neighborhood Association (STNA) annual Spring Clean-Up. Starting at 9:00 am we welcomed neighbors who brought everything from tree limbs and plastic bags to tattered sofas and broken down barbeques. We even received a few kitchen sinks.
The goal of the clean-up is to help neighbors tidy up their homes and keep trash out of the landfill. More than 70% of the materials collected will be reused or recycled. The proceeds from the event support neighborhood activities such as this summer’s “Movie in the Park” at the Warner Pacific field. Thank you to all our neighbors for your support.

By the time we closed at 1:00 pm, nearly 40 volunteers had unloaded more than 100 cars and trucks. That is when the real clean up started - three more hours of backbreaking work to finish loading dumpsters, haul away plastic, break down equipment, and clean the parking lot. As we labored, student musicians kept our spirits up with their lively music.

We want to give special thanks to Kim Hogan (Clean-Up Coordinator) Jana Throckmorton (Past Clean-Up Coordinator), and Sandy Hay Magdaleno (Volunteer Coordinator) for their untiring efforts. A giant thank you to all the volunteers, especially members of the Franklin High School Earth Club, who made the 2011 Spring Clean-Up a success. We also want to thank Trinity Fellowship for their continued support and for allowing us to once again use their parking lot.
