Seeds of SE Uplift: Volunteer Appreciation Week 2013

In honor of Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 21-April 27, we featured a story on a different community project each day of the week.  These five stories are terrific examples of the power of volunteerism.  SE Portland is a stronger, more vibrant community because of you!

 

Volunteer Appreciation Spotlight: The North Tabor Mural Project

For the final day of Volunteer Appreciation Week, we are highlighting the work of Christin Huja and Gail Morris with the North Tabor Mural Project.  This project is one component of the neighborhood association's Neighborhood Identity Project to build community and a sense of place.

Volunteer Appreciation Spotlight: HACE

Today we are highlighting the Hawthorne Area Civic Ecology project as part of Volunteer Appreciation Week. This citizen led initiative is helping inner SE Portland become an even more vibrant, sustainable and resilient place to live, work and play!

Volunteer Appreciation Spotlight: The Woodstock Plant Sale

Today we are highlighting the Friends of Woodstock Community Center and their upcoming Annual Plant Sale on May 11.  This long-running event is a fundraiser for the Woodstock Community Center.

In honor of Volunteer Appreciation Week, we are highlighting some of our coalition's amazing volunteer projects each day.  Today we are showcasing the Sixth Annual Foster-Powell Garden Tour with input from Tamra Tiemeyer, the Project Coordinator.  

2013 Neighborhood Small Grant Recipients Announced

The Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI) has allocated $21,603 in grant funds to SE Uplift for management of the 2013 Neighborhood Small Grant Program. This grant program provides neighborhood and community-based organizations the opportunity to build community, attract new and diverse members, and sustain current membership. Twenty grant proposals were received by the November 5, 2012 deadline, requesting a total of $55,698.45.

Feast for Southeast!

Beginning a decade ago as a mere thought, Rob Selva, Founder and Director of Feast for Southeast, felt driven to find a way to “share [his] resources with those less fortunate.” Sitting in a friend’s living room seven weeks before Thanksgiving in 2010, he shared his dream with others. “I always thought this would be a better way to express gratitude than enjoying our own ‘feast.’ Whether that meant buying a turkey and giving it to someone, preparing a meal for a family in need, or volunteering at a local community event – I knew I wanted to make an impact!”

SE Portland Tool Library NEEDS MORE SPACE

And it needs your help!

The Southeast Portland Tool Library (SEPTL) is now over two and a half years old and has over 2000 members in inner SE Portland. The SEPTL it seems has now outgrown its space that 2 ½ years ago seemed sufficient. Growth is good as far as a tool library is concerned, but it now leaves us very cramped and needing a new space.
