Land Use, Planning, and Transportation Program

Oregon's Statewide Planning Goal #1 calls for public participation in the development of planning policy. The City of Portland has traditionally used its distinctive system of neighborhood associations to comply with this requirement. The result is a unique set of opportunities for citizens to provide input into land use and planning decisions. When a Land Use Review is required for new development, the City notifies adjacent property owners as well as neighborhood associations, giving each an opportunity to respond. neighborhood associations can also appeal some land use decisions at no cost.
SE Uplift has been influential in shaping land use and transportation policy for almost forty years. Our goal is to ensure that neighborhood concerns are reflected in government decisions. The value of the coalition is the ability to pull people together to advocate effectively.
