The Central City 2035 Plan
Central City 2035 Symposium Series
|
WHAT: The Central City 2035 team is launching a Symposium Series this Friday, October 22, 2010. Each symposium is an intense and focused work session organized around one of six topics. Experts from a variety of areas will come together for a three-hour session to lead the discussion and guide the conversation.
WHO: Project staff from the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, other city staff, experts from a variety of disciplines, CC2035 Stakeholder Advisory Group members and interested community members.
WHEN: October, 2010 - February, 2011 The topic of the first two Symposiums is: Housing and Community Development Friday, October 22, 2010 | 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2010 | 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. To view a calendar showing the entire Symposium Series, click here.
WHY: Central City 2035 (CC2035) is an update to the 1988 Central City Plan, which is the existing plan and policy for downtown and central areas of Portland. The development of a revised Concept Plan for the Central City requires thinking through complex issues, which have been organized into six themes. Each theme will be discussed in a series of two Symposiums to gather insight from a diverse representation of Portlanders, guiding staff toward strategies to ensure a vibrant Central City, now and in the future.

The Portland Plan
The entire comprehensive planning document for the city of Portland is currently being re-written in an effort called the Portland Plan. The Portland Plan is an inclusive, citywide effort to guide the physical, economic, social, cultural and environemental development of Portland over the next 30 years. The plan will build on the work the community did through visionPDX, which captured some community shared values of sustainability, equity and accessibility, and community connectedness and distinctiveness. It is imperative for neighborhoods to have a strong voice in this process as it will likely change the face of Portland for many years to come.

Bicycle Master Plan Implementation
SE Uplift is currently serving with several other neighborhood representatives on the NE/SE 50's Bikeway Citizen's Advisory Committee (CAC). This project will design and construct a 4.5 mile north-south bike route from NE Thompson Avenue and 57th to SE Woodstock Blvd and 52nd. The CAC will meet several times in the latter half of 2010 and hold an open house presenting the proposed route to the general public.
